The Metro Film and Arts Foundation

Advancing the arts through grants and funding progams in San Francisco, California.

Our work is concentrated in two main areas: philanthropic support of artists and film preservation.

It is with great pride that The Metro Film and Arts Foundation continues its commitment to the principle that the diverse voices of all people must be heard in film, television, literature, and art generally. We are pleased to support a number of programs in these areas, as well as individual artists, so that their important work is kept vibrant and moving forward.

Breaking Down Walls

The Metro Film and Arts Foundation has received a very generous donation from the J & J Arts Initiative. Using these funds, we have commissioned works of art across several disciplines. All performers will focus on a complex theme of “The Wall” and Breaking Down Walls.

The Breaking Down Walls project aims to highlight how the performance arts can build a common ground for recognition and celebration of our shared humanity. This art initiative gives voice to ideas which challenge the aspects, actions and ideas that divide our society today.

Film Preservation

Tens of millions of feet of film, important documents of our culture and history, are at risk of being lost to us forever. Through the restoration and digitization of analog home movies, documentaries, films, and historical footage we are trying to mitigate this loss and preserve a unique, insightful, first-person view into the past.
